Great Farm is a trial farm site used to establish whether sustainable food production and wildlife conservation can work efficiently and productively on the average UK farm. We have established 6-metre-wide margins around the edges of the fields which are planted with wildflowers and hay meadows. Hedgerows have been left to grow for longer before being cut and we’re experimenting with practices such as direct drilling. Direct drilling involves planting the seeds straight into the ground (without ploughing and cultivating beforehand), which reduces carbon emissions as well as improving soil and biodiversity.

More information about this site can be found in the 2022 book Land Healer, written by our General Manager of Conservation, Jake Fiennes.
