Alternative Fuel

All aboard!

In 2022 we launched a new Wells Beach bus service which is primarily, this is run on an electric bus – the first of this kind in the UK. Find out more about the new bus service here. We’re also replacing our fleet vehicles with electric models when possible.

To promote eco-friendly travel, we also offer discounts if you arrive at Holkham by bike, bus or on foot. Visit the Good Journey website for further details of the discount and how you can get to Holkham using public transport. We’ve also got cycle hire in Holkham Park and a network of footpaths and cycle paths for visitors to enjoy.

Electric vehicles and chargers

Electric vehicle charging points have been added to visitor accommodation at the Holkham Lodges and Pinewoods Holiday Park. We also have four EV chargers at The Victoria  and for day visitors, there are two EV charging points in Holkham Park and two at Lady Anne’s Drive car park. These give our visitors the opportunity to choose eco-friendly transport options and we’re continuing with plans to add more across the estate.

Hydrogen Power

As well as electrifying machinery and vehicles were possible we’ve also moved our garden vehicles to HVO fuel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) a renewable fuel which reduces the carbon emissions by 90% compared to diesel.

Last year we trialed the use of hydrogen tower lights for our weddings business too. These are not only 0 emissions but also quieter and have 0 risk of fuel spillage. We have added them to our carbon negative roadmap.
