Plans for the new Wells Beach Bus service are taking shape, and we aim for the service to operate for the start of the main school holidays in July 2022.

The bus service will connect the town and beach here at Wells-next-the-Sea.

Here’s an outline of what to expect…

Our main bus will be fully electric – the first of this particular kind in the UK – providing a transport solution which is pioneering and sustainable, recognising how important this will become between now and 2030. The electric bus will lower to kerb height with an access ramp to accommodate accessible needs.

A 1951 Leyland Tiger – a vintage open-top bus that started its life transporting visitors around the Channel Islands – will accompany the service on high days and holidays. The Leyland Tiger will add additional capacity and a memorable experience, recognising the how much the Wells Harbour Railway was loved. It was wonderful to see people enjoying this bus at the recent Jubilee celebrations at Pinewoods Holiday Park.

Dogs will be allowed onboard both buses.

The service will run from April (in future years) to October, connecting the town and beach – operating a route from the football club car park to the roundabout at the beach end of Beach Road.

We hope the new bus service will allow everyone to reach the beach and town safely, especially important during school holidays when Wells Beach Car Park is full by mid-morning.

Fares

To keep things simple we will offer single fares only. These will be payable by card.

£2.00 adult

£1.00 child (under 16)

The service will remain flexible to accommodate demand and weather conditions, rather than following a set timetable.

We look forward to welcoming you, your family and friends on board!
