Vicki Uttridge
Visitor Team
After attending the Recruitment Open Day in 2022, I secured a role in the Visitor Team where I have been for the past three years. No two days are ever the same in the Visitor Reception. The role is wonderfully varied and every day goes by in a happy blur.
As a member of the Visitor Experience Team, the number one priority is to look after our visitors. Our role involves meeting and greeting, dealing with phone and email enquiries, selling entry tickets and generally making sure everyone is having a great time whilst here. We are also on hand to support other teams where necessary.
What makes Holkham a great place to work?
Hands down – the people and the most beautiful surroundings. We are a large and varied group of people but we all love Holkham and are very proud to be here.
Have you participated in any training?
During my time at Holkham I have completed both First Aid and Mental First Aid Training which have been immensely helpful. Each year we welcome thousands of visitors of all ages to Holkham, so it is important that we are able to provide support as required.
My role in the Visitor Team is continually evolving as the offer to our visitors changes. I am lucky to be part of a multi-skilled team, so whilst we all play to our strengths – there is always something new to learn. Being open to change is key to the Visitor Team.
What are you most proud of in your role?
I am proud to be part of our team. We are a tight-knit bunch of very different personalities, who often do not see each other much through the season due to our different shift patterns. That said – we all look after each other and always go out of our way to support each other.
If you could swap roles for a day, which would you choose?
I would love to be a fly on the wall in Hooker’s workshop (Hooker is a Houseman inside the Hall). That man is a legend! He is so clever and could make anything you ask him to.
How would you spend the day as a visitor to Holkham?
Exploring! There is so much to see. I would then find a quiet spot on the East side of the lake to sit and watch one of our glorious Norfolk sunsets!
