Waste Separation – Be part of the solution, not the pollution.

Bin wins!
Since 2020 we have reduced the amount of non-recyclable waste generated by our visitors by over 50%, this includes our bins at Wells Beach, Holkham Beach and Holkham Park. The main causes of this have been reducing waste generated and also increasing waste separated into recycling and composting.
Thank you to our visitors, catering concessions, partners and suppliers – last year we recycled and composted 60% of waste generated compared to only 21% in 2020. We’re delighted with the results however, we’re determined to improve on this.
With the beautiful summer weather encouraging many of us to pack up a picnic to enjoy alfresco or to head beach-ward, sadly hot days = a hot mess at our bin separation stations.
Our biggest challenges are when our visitors bring their own waste to the Beach or the Park and for ease, pop it all into one bag and put that bag into the general waste bin. This means that items which could be recycled like cans or food waste which could be composted are instead sent to an incinerator and burnt – This produces more carbon emissions than recycling it also means that new materials need to be used to create packaging rather than using recycled materials which again, increases carbon emissions.
Please help us stamp out waste – this summer is please either take the time to separate your waste into our bins or take it home with you.
