The best hotel rooms in North Norfolk – The Vic’s top picks

August 16, 2025 | The Victoria | 7 minute read

With twenty individually designed hotel rooms and the addition of four new shepherd huts earlier this year, it’s no surprise that the team at The Victoria each have their favourites! The two hotel buildings have their own unique history, and the rooms are steeped in character, while the handcrafted shepherd huts have each been thoughtfully designed to reflect the countryside and coastal surroundings, perfect for a holiday on the North Norfolk coast.

The best hotel rooms in our North Norfolk hotel, according to the team!

In this post, Kyle, Caroline, Marissa, Ines, Mandy and Ida share their preferred choice for a stay at The Victoria. If you’ve stayed with us before, perhaps you’re favourite room will be listed here too… but if you haven’t, why not take a look through our gallery and see which room or shepherd hut would take your fancy? With rooms ranging from snug doubles to luxury suites, there’s somewhere to suit everyone.

Kyle’s favourite space at The Victoria

Working at The Victoria certainly has its perks; being right on the edge of the beautiful Holkham Park and National Nature Reserve, meeting lovely guests, and getting a sneak peek at all our lovely rooms. My favourite room isn’t specifically a hotel room but one of our new shepherd huts – The Decoy.

The Decoy isn’t a typical shepherd hut – it has been designed with space, style and relaxation in mind. It is a mix of rustic and modern comfort: inside, you’ll find a king-size bed, a spacious kitchen area and a lovely walk-in shower, all carefully crafted to create a cosy environment.

The colour scheme in The Decoy creates a fresh feeling, with a beautiful painting created by one of our very own staff, Lauren.

The Victoria always has sustainability at the forefront of decisions and The Decoy is no different, featuring a three-compartment bin to allow for multi-purpose recycling and a compost bin to contribute to the food-waste-to-energy process used in the main hotel.

One thing that stands out for me is the private patio area; each hut has been strategically placed to give you a private area without feeling boxed in. It looks out over an open field, giving you that beautiful country charm. Honestly, I can picture myself sitting out there with a cup of coffee, the grass still dewy in the morning and watching the wildlife. In the summer, there is a chiminea BBQ, which makes it the perfect spot for an evening in the sun with a cold beer or a glass of wine (speaking of wine, included in The Decoy and all shepherd huts is a complimentary bottle of red and white wine sourced from Adnams, so enjoy!).

We at The Victoria are dog friendly and The Decoy is no different. There is a little sleeping area tucked underneath the bed just for them. It’s the kind of thing that shows how much thought has gone into making the hut feel like a real home away from home for everyone, including our four-legged friends.

Guests can book The Decoy on our Bed and Breakfast package or go for self-catering if they fancy making the most of their hut. It is definitely a lovely place to unwind and switch off-the perfect place for a break on the Norfolk coast.

I look forward to welcoming you when you come to stay.

In addition to the huts, we have a collection of absolutely beautiful bedrooms. To put a spotlight on just a few, I asked my colleagues which rooms are their favourites.

Just a note – the rooms in The Victoria’s main building are dog friendly. Rooms in Ancient House are solely for humans!

Ines – Restaurant Supervisor:

“My favourite room is Room 10 – Joe’s Stop. I love this room because it is spacious, despite being located in the eaves of the hotel, and is perfect for families as it has two bathrooms and a separate room for the children.”

Joe’s Stop sleeps up to four people across the king-sized bed, a single bed in a separate bedroom and an additional z-bed which can be added if required. The room is in The Victoria’s main building, meaning this room is dog friendly and suitable for up to two dogs.

Caroline – Receptionist:

“My favourite room is Room 20 – Bones Belt. This room has a spacious layout, making it feel light and airy, and as it is on the first floor it has a beautiful view of Ancient House Garden. It also includes a walk-in shower and a separate bath, giving that luxury choice of relaxation.”

Bones Belt is in Ancient House, and is suitable for those visiting North Norfolk without a dog.

Marissa – Housekeeper:

“My favourite room is Room 14 – Wilbrahams. The reason I like this room is because it is one of our split-level suites. I like the idea of having a separate lounge downstairs and making your way upstairs to bed. I just think it’s great how much space it has to offer.”

Wilbrahams is in Ancient House, and is suitable for those travelling without a dog. It’s ideal for anyone wanting plenty of space, or would also suit a family (up to 2 adults and 2 children) – the sofa can be extended into a sofa bed, or we can add in a z-bed or a cot.

Mandy – Housekeeper:

“My favourite room is Room 19 – Emmerdale. The room has a lovely spacious and inviting layout which is all on one level and provides a separate lounge area. It is also perfect to be used as a family room, my grandson has stayed in this room and it is also his favourite. Room 19 is located on the first floor giving a lovely view of both the front and rear garden.”

Emmerdale is in Ancient House, meaning this room is not suitable if you are bringing your dog on your Norfolk holiday. It sleeps up to two adults and two children.

Ida – Reception Manager:

“My favourite room is Room 1 – Hare Clump. This room is light and airy with a beautiful view that looks over the marshes. This is one of our dog friendly rooms and is spacious enough to accommodate up to two four-legged friends. This room is one of our deluxe rooms and Room 1 has an interconnecting door which leads to its sistering room (Room 2 Tutsia Clump) which makes it perfect for those bringing their children or wanting to increase the overall space.”

As Ida has mentioned, Hare Clump welcomes up to two dogs, ideal if you’re bringing your pooches with you to enjoy all that Norfolk has to offer.
