Hidden Passages and Servants' Stairs Behind the Scenes Tours of Holkham Hall
Every Wednesday from 3rd April to 30th October, 11am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3pm
We are delighted to announce the return of our behind the scenes tours exploring the hidden passages and the servants’ stairs of Holkham Hall.
By popular demand, the tours will now take place every Wednesday during the main season from April through October.
Accompanied by an expert guide, the tour takes you right up to the highest tower rooms and attics in the Hall. You will even see what lies behind the beautiful ceiling of the Marble Hall and hear how it was made.
Find out how the servants managed to flit between the grand State Rooms without being seen and how they serviced the State Bedchambers, where royalty once slept. Learn where Princess Victoria’s Ladies in Waiting were accommodated. See where the fantastic collection of manuscripts were once found, when Coke of Norfolk inherited the Hall. See where the Housekeeper, the Cook, the Butler, and the Steward once ruled the roost and see the bells which summoned them, and their staff, on demand.
This is a rare opportunity to see parts of the Hall not normally on public display. Oh, and the views over the park from the Tower rooms are delightful.
But, be aware! These tours are not for everybody. You will need to climb seventy stairs to the top of the house (and seventy stairs down again!) So, do wear sensible shoes.
Tickets: £25 adult, £12.50 child (recommended age 10+).
Parking is included in the price. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for climbing stairs. Photography is not permitted. As well as the stairs, there will be confined spaces and heights therefore if you are unsure whether this tour is suitable please contact us. Due to the nature of this event, we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs or buggies and we recommend that the tour is suitable for children aged 10 and over.
