Cellar Tours of Holkham Hall: A Working World Beneath Your Feet
Accompanied by an expert guide, explore the cellars that lie beneath Holkham Hall.
Take a journey back through time to the ever-changing world of the Holkham courtyards and cellars. Peel away the years and discover how the servants used the courtyards and cellars and how they moved discreetly from place to place. See the full extent of the kitchen complex and where the bread was baked. Discover the many ways the hall has been heated – and how things were kept cool. Hear about the very first laundry and why working down below might not have been quite so bad after all.
This is a tour of a working environment. Surfaces may not be clean. Sensible shoes and clothing required.
