Kickstart Opportunities at Holkham

What is Kickstart?

Kickstart is a Government scheme that provides funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment.

One of our Five Ambitions at Holkham is to be a force for good in helping local communities to thrive. One of the ways that we can do this is by providing employment. We have specifically created initially 7 Kickstart placements. These are not filling existing or seasonal job opportunities, but have been created based on careful thinking about what areas of our business we would like to develop further and support.

What are the opportunities?

We have seven different positions available – full details of these can be accessed below….

All positions will be 25 hours per week. You may need to work weekends and bank holidays, depending on the positions, details are shown on the job descriptions.

What are the benefits?

We are an Accredited Living Wage Foundation and pay £9.50 per hour to 18 plus. 16 – 17 year-olds will be paid above the statutory minimum rate at £5.18 per hour.

Why Holkham?

Holkham is one of the largest employers in north Norfolk. As a finalist in the EDP Best Employer Award in 2019, and winner of the North Norfolk Business Award for Young People and Skills, we are well equipped to provide excellent support to the development of young people, having both an education team and a Head of HR.

Each Kickstart team member will be assigned with a supervisor/mentor who will be responsible for day to day supervision and support.

What training will I receive?

We would like our Kickstart team to start at the same time so that you can all benefit from learning together as a group and you will have a support network of each other.

The will be six half day face to face group sessions once a month:

Month 1: Induction, health and safety, development plans

Month 2: Communication skills and engaging with customers

Month 3: Teamwork

Month 4: Managing your time

Month 5: Career coaching, preparing your CV and applications

Month 6: Interview skills

This will be complemented by an online Kickstart training programme which provides up to 26 hours of learning with a certificate produced at the end. Kickstart team members will be given one hour paid per week to complete this.

The programme includes:

Support with CV and interview preparation

Improving yourself and setting goals

Microsoft Office

Managing conflict and difficult situations

Managing wellbeing

Customer service excellence

Solving problems


Time and prioritisation
