In summer 2026, Belle spent three days with the Marketing Team. Read on to find out from Belle what she got up to and what she has learned.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, 1st of July 2026, I came to Holkham Hall to do 3 days of work experience with the marketing team. I decided on my work experience there as I had a family member who also worked there and I was also generally intrigued by the prospects of marketing. When I first arrived, I was greeted by Lucy who showed me where all the important stuff is then took me to where I would be working for the next 3 days. After a brief overview of what marketing is and what roles each of the team have, me and Emma headed off to capture some footage for the attic and cellar tours. We were joined by Ryan and Laura who helped us get some amazing footage to put into the social’s monthly postcard video. I enjoyed exploring many areas of the hall I had never seen before and learned a lot about how everything works. When I returned from the tour I went straight into editing the McDonnell Caravans website with Clem which allowed me to get an insight of the work that goes on to make these websites.

After that we then went to film some videos of the archivists as further footage for the monthly postcard which was interesting as I got to look at the ancient scrolls they were documenting. In the afternoon I then went with Emma to a meeting with Harry Cory Wright where we discussed his latest project, The Golden Shed. It was fun to see how the marketing team communicates with businesses and help promote their experience. Then we returned to the office to plan a future film shoot.

Thursday

I started off my day with a trip to the walled garden with Clem to finish capturing videos to put in the monthly postcard. She told me about the amazing history of the garden and all about the lovely volunteers who work there. We managed to get some nice shots of all the budding flowers and other plants and even managed to get a wonderful video of a butterfly! We then once again returned to the office where me and Clem designed some new posters for what’s on in summer. I thoroughly enjoyed having an insight into the design process and made me realize the great effort that goes into signs that you may see on the back of a toilet door. I enjoyed picking images for them as looking through the endless numbers of images is quite entertaining. After we had designed them, I even got to help put them around the estate for visitors to see!

After that I then worked with Jo who taught me how to use the system used to schedule their social media posts and I scheduled a few posts of my own. I enjoyed taking over their various businesses Instagram and Facebook as it allowed me to see the thought that is put behind every post and I also got to post some pictures of cute dogs.

Friday

I started my morning by replying to reviews of the various Holkham owned businesses on Trip Advisor and Google with Emma and Clem. I found this interesting as I got to see how they respond to negative reviews but also got to see the plethora of positive reviews. It really showed how much they care about customer service. I then went on to update the Holkham website with Clem. We updated some of the photos in the wedding section which was fun as I got creative freedom of what photos to use.

After lunch we decided to take the golf buggy out to gather some footage of sheep and other animals in the park which I enjoyed as I got to see many buildings in the park, such as the temple, which I had never seen before.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time doing work experience with the marketing department. I learnt a lot about how much effort goes into designs that may be overlooked and I also learnt a lot about the hall.  The part I enjoyed the most was helping design the posters as even though it was a simple task, I found it very fun and methodical. It made me realize how much I enjoy graphic design and that I would like to learn more about it. I didn’t know what to expect going into work experience however I am extremely satisfied with the outcomes. I had superb time throughout the 3 days I was there, thank you to Clem, Jo, Emma and all the other staff members I was lucky enough to meet for making my time here so enjoyable.
