My week with the Marketing team by Hollie

July 4, 2025 | Learning | 6 minute read

I have spent a week with the Marketing team and it has been amazing. On my first day I was extremely nervous due to work experience being something I’m not familiar with and not yet experienced, however I was greeted with kindness and by the end of the first day I wasn’t nervous anymore. I have loved every second of it!

Monday

On Monday I was greeted and shown around the workspace. I also got to finish writing a blog which I loved and was very interesting particularly because I love writing. Then I got taken around Holkham Hall to learn some history about it and  to take some pictures for my blog, I found taking pictures in particular a very fun part of my work experience. I learned a very interesting fact about the Hall from one of the guides. The symmetry is on point apart from the fireplace which is slightly off to fit the tapestries. I also helped design a shop bio poster to sit in the gift shop alongside a maker’s product which I found really interesting. I also helped proofread an e-newsletter before it got sent out to the Holkham database.

Tuesday

On Tuesday I did some work in the shop, I dusted some shelves and I found finding stock challenging due to there being so many products. While I was working in the shop, I found the till very interesting and the way that it worked, I also managed to serve some customers which I found a bit nerve racking at first but when I did it I was extremely proud of myself. I found the books that were in the shop such as the Weybourne witches which I didn’t know existed until now.

Also on Tuesday I went on The Tractor Trailer tour which was such an amazing experience to learn more about Holkham’s amazing history, we also got shown deer and taught how antlers work. I found this tour amazingly fun.

Wednesday

Wednesday was an extremely fun day, when I  came into the office I got taught about reviews and how to respond to different types of them. I even had the amazing opportunity to reply to them myself. I found some of the complaints funny but strange such as one that was talking about the Victoria but actually never visited. After that I was given the opportunity to go on Holkham Hall’s attic tour which was extremely interesting and I loved learning more about Holkham’s rich history. I found out that when Queen Mary visited she had her own toilet built known as the floating toilet.

In the afternoon I firstly did some editing on Canva for the upcoming events happening in July. To go on social media to help upsell events and increase ticket sales.

Then I got kindly taken down to the Walled Gardens with the opportunity to take pictures of the beautiful gardens for my blog, the garden was such a magical place and is definitely worth a visit. When we got back I had help working on my booklet for school.

Thursday

On Thursday I got taught about AI and how it’s used at Holkham and how to keep the Holkham tone while using it. AI can be extremely helpful in a work place if used correctly, it can support you with things like research, planning, ideas, drafts and problem solving. I also had the opportunity to sit in with a meeting which showed me even more behind the scenes of marketing. The meeting was with a company Pinewoods are looking to work with. We were shown the marketing elements of the programme. The meeting was held on Microsoft teams to save time and travel.

I also went down to the shop and took photos of 10 summery products, I also wrote down their prices so I could write them up for a gift guide. I chose products like baskets and flowers to remind people of a lovely family picnic, I also chose products like a Holkham ‘beach this way’ magnet so it would remind people of their time at the beach.

Friday

On Friday I was taught how to use Hootsuite which is a scheduling tool for social media. I scheduled posts for 3 weeks for The Lookout, Pinewoods and the Beach Cafe. I wrote captions for each picture I chose then I had to schedule a time for it to upload. Then we went onto Facebook and replied to people’s comments . Then I got taught about Meta Ads Manager and saw how paid advertising is set up for the Pinewoods and learned how it targets its audience. Then looked at the reportings for the campaign to see how well it was performing it being Deal of the week for the Pinewoods. On Friday I also helped build a new event page for the Halloween Garden 2025 and used software called WordPress to build the page and chose fonts and wrote a copy for the page. After lunch I then went out and took some pictures of the park. When I came back we started designing the posters for all the summer activities happening in Holkham to go up in the toilets for advertisement. We had to make everything line up properly with the lines and make sure titles were in bold.
