Detail from plans for development of Freeman Street Car Park in Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk

Planning & Development

Freeman Street Car Park

Work on Phase 1 of the new car park behind Freeman Street in Wells-next-the-Sea was completed in time to open for Easter 2016 and provides much needed coach parking for the town along with 145 car parking spaces. Both the town and beach can be accessed via a pathway from the eastern side of the car park. Extensive landscaping is still ongoing to create an enhanced habitat for wildlife.

It is hoped that, with the addition by NCC of new town signage, this will go some way towards alleviating the high level of traffic through the town during high season. A planning application has been submitted to be able to access the overflow parking on the Pitch & Putt field directly from Freeman Street car park which, if approved, will further reduce the grid lock and congestion in the town at peak times by removing much of the traffic off Beach Road.
