Open Air Concerts
2014 – Status Quo & The Last Night of the Proms
On Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August, Holkham hosted two wonderful evenings of entertainment.
Iconic rock band Status Quo headlined on the first night. The band has recorded more British hit singles than any other group and has total worldwide record sales in excess of 118 million. Status Quo first performed at Holkham in 2007 and this concert proved to be yet another fabulous evening’s ‘rock till you drop’ entertainment with many of their hits having the audience on their feet and joining in.
Support artists, Norfolk-based band Walkway, with brothers Chris and James Ready, Alex Rosedale and Joe Evans opened the show.
On the Sunday, The Last Night of the Proms, performed by the English National Philharmonic Orchestra, with principal ENPO conductor Ben Crick, was another success with an evening of popular classical music. The orchestra was joined by one of Britain’s most versatile sopranos Clare Ormshaw and acclaimed tenor Lee Bradley. The audience were encouraged to join in singing some of Britain’s best-loved patriotic pieces and the evening ended with the crowd-pleasing rendition of ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and a spectacular fireworks display.
