2011 – Mercury & James Aston

On Sunday 28th August two excellent tribute acts performed at our Pop Party in the Park.

Despite heavy rain earlier in the week, the weather was perfect for the audience to set up their tables and chairs for this picnic-style event in the south park.

The evening started with The Ultimate Tribute to the King of Pop featuring James Aston as Michael Jackson, who sung and danced his way through some of Jackson’s most memorable songs including, Beat It, Billie Jean and Earth Song. James Aston and his backing dancers gave a superb performance of Michael Jackson’s unforgettable record Thriller, donning ghoulish costumes and face masks to emulate the iconic Thriller video.

In the second half of the show, the audience were on their feet to welcome Mercury, appearing as Queen, with dynamic front man Freddie Mercury. With over a decade on tour, Mercury is established as one of the world’s most authentic tributes to Freddie Mercury and the band. The show captured the true charismatic appeal of rock’s most flamboyant lead vocalist and was backed up by superbly crafted harmonies and intricate guitar work. In true style, Mercury recreated the distinctive Queen experience with renditions of many favourite songs including, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga and I Want It Now. The evening finished with a brilliant version of We Are The Champions which had the crowd singing along as fireworks lit up the night sky.
