Woods and Trees, Birds and Bees - Half term family fun

Saturday 15th to Sunday 23rd February

Make the most of this half term by heading out to the great outdoors and immersing your family in nature. With the bare trees and the peace and quiet, there is no better time to go bird spotting or spend some quality time together. Join us for a whole host of events in our wonderful woodland, from bush craft to nature trails, and celebrate nature.

Go Wild in the Woods
Join us at St George’s Clump in Holkham Park for daily changing events and a breath of fresh air!

Brilliant Bushcraft and Natural Crafts
Saturday 15th to Monday 17th and Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd, 10am-4pm.
Take your spot around the warming campfire and try your hand at bush craft activities and natural crafts with our local expert Adam Flack.

Telling Tales
Tuesday 18th to Thursday 20th
Join the herd and become a part of a story with Gregory, the Teller of Tall Tales. Frolic like a fawn, dance like a doe and strut like a stag while learning all about the deer that roam the estate. Let your imagination run wild in this interactive story experience.

Tantalising Trails
Head over to the Holkham Stories Experience and become a wildlife tracker, following the footprints of creatures great and small, or have a go at our ‘Chorus Chaos’ trail by tuning your ear to the birdcalls that are often heard at Holkham – can you match the bird to the call?

Eco Crafts
Join us in the education room to create your own eco-friendly wind chime or seed mosaic, or take your time to relax in the ‘colouring corner’.

Tree-mendous Cycle Trail
Branch out and follow the waymarked cycle route to learn about the many species of trees you may spot on your travels. Hire a bike from our cycle hire centre, or bring your own. Cycle hire from £8. Find out more

Take to the Trees on our Ropes Course
Climb up high for a trail of discovery through the treetops, finishing with a descent down our two zip lines to get your feet back on the ground! £18 per person. Find out more


Join us at The Lookout on the Holkham National Nature Reserve where you can find out more about these amazing creatures that live in the pine woods.

Build a Bird Box
Daily, 10am-1pm
Build your very own bird box to take home, to encourage our flying feathered friends to nest in your garden. £9 per person. Parking charges apply.

Bird Trail Walks
Monday 17th – Friday 21st, 1.30pm
Join one of our friendly guides and walk our trail of 27 bird boxes on the National Nature Reserve, to help us gather information for our bird survey. Meet at The Lookout. Walks are free of charge, parking charges apply.

Benefit Bees
Saturdays 15th & 22nd and Sundays 16th& 23rd, 1.30-4pm
Drop in to The Lookout in the afternoon to make bee homes. Free of charge. Parking charges apply.

The Princess and the Goblin
Tuesday 18th February, 2pm
The evil goblins under the mountain plan to kidnap princess Irene and force her to become their queen. Can her magical great-great grandmother, and Curdie the brave miner boy save Irene before it is too late? What other dastardly plots might the goblins be hatching, and will Curdie be in time to stop the goblins taking the most terrible of revenges?

This enchanting tale of faith and courage in the face of adversity is suitable for everybody from the age of 4 upwards.
