During the winter, it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves. Taking the time to decompress, to relax and to enjoy nature is key to maintaining our wellbeing. Here’s how Holkham can help you to take care of your wellbeing this winter—and throughout the rest of the year.

1. Getting out into nature

According to mental health charity Mind, “spending time in green space or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing.” With an abundance of wildlife and landscapes including parkland, marshes, woodland and beaches, there are plenty of places to enjoy a peaceful stroll or simply a quiet sit down with a cup of tea and your thoughts.

If you live further afield, we’ll be sharing regular short videos on social media. ‘A Moment to Pause’ will show you areas of nature at Holkham every week or so, so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of our landscapes on your phone or laptop from wherever you are. Join us on InstagramFacebook or Twitter.

2. Wellbeing walks

If community is something you’re missing, or if you don’t want to walk alone, why not join one of our group walks? No booking is required, just meet at the designated location just before 10am and enjoy the fresh North Norfolk air with good company. The walks follow a circular route through a mix of terrain. They are free of charge and last 90 minutes (though we suggest allowing some time for a sausage roll!).

Our Wellbeing Walks take place on the third Tuesday of each month, and are suitable for both men and women.

Walking Women events occur on the first Tuesday of every month, setting off from various locations around Holkham and Wells-Next-The-Sea. These offer a great way to meet new female friends whilst enjoying nature and getting good, low-impact exercise.

3. Treat yourself to dinner or a relaxing stay at The Victoria Inn

It’s important to treat yourself sometimes, whether that’s with a delicious dinner on date-night or an overnight stay overlooking the beautiful Holkham National Nature Reserve. Our friends over at The Victoria Inn know exactly how to ensure you have a relaxing and care-free visit to the North Norfolk Coast. A cosy, winter walk on Holkham Beach is best followed by a warm, hearty lunch at The Vic! No need to worry about leaving your pooch behind, as The Vic are dog-friendly for both overnight stays and meals.

Please book dining at The Vic in advance by calling 01328 711008.

4. Get moving!

Holkham are proud to host a parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am for people of all ages and abilities! Whether you’re an avid marathon-runner or haven’t run for years, you are welcome to enjoy an easy-going run, jog or walk surrounded by the beautiful scenery within Holkham Park.

If you are an avid athlete, why not enter the Outlaw Half Triathlon? It’s taking place at Holkham on 3rd July, so there’s still time to prepare. Give yourself a challenge to look forward to and feel the benefits of training.

If you love trying out different sports, Holkham are also proud to announce that the Festival of Sport is returning this August, with tickets going on sale soon! This is a great opportunity to decompress with family and friends by playing a range of sports alongside sporting legends. There is something for everyone – no matter your age or skills! It’s also worth attending one of their wellness workshops and taking that all-important time for yourself. Ticket prices and booking details will be announced soon.

We’re recruiting for a variety of roles within Holkham for 2022 – and what better way to look after your wellbeing than choosing a job you love? At Holkham we’re proud of being more than a team – we’re a community. There is no shortage of smiles from our colleagues, and we believe a big driver for that is the stunning place in which we work. Not many people can say they’ve had a relaxing stroll down by the lake to watch a herd of fallow deer during their lunch break!
