Real Wedding of Marina and Jack

August 13, 2018 | Weddings and celebrations | 5 minute read

Marina Campbell-Gray married Jack Rudman at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Wells-next-the-Sea, followed by a reception in the Walled Garden at Holkham on 20th May 2017.

Marina says:
We decided very quickly that we wanted our wedding to be in Norfolk and Holkham has always been somewhere that has held very fond memories for me, so it felt like the obvious option for us. We looked at a couple of venues in the local area but Holkham was by far the best and most suited to us. When we saw the Walled Garden we knew that’s where we wanted to have it! We knew we wanted our wedding to be outside in the grounds somewhere and the Walled Garden offered us the privacy we wanted and enough space to fit all our family and friends. We wanted a fairly informal, relaxed wedding filled with lots of wild spring flowers, locally sourced food and great music. And of course an endless supply of drinks… all of which we managed to achieve.

The Walled Garden Reception

I spent the day before the wedding at a house my Mum rented in Burnham Market, while Jack stayed in my grandparents’ cottage in Burnham Overy Staithe. The morning of my wedding was actually very relaxed, I spent most of it sunbathing in the garden and getting ready slowly with my family and bridesmaids, while Jack had his usher’s lunch at The Hero just down the road.

Bridesmaids Dresses

My bridesmaids were by two oldest friends and two sisters, they wore light blue dresses from Ghost.

Wedding Dress by Jane Bourvis

My wedding dress was from Jane Bourvis. I’m not a massive shopper so I found dress shopping quite stressful! Then I met Jane and she was wonderful.

Bouquet by Daisy Allsup

I carried a bouquet by Daisy Allsup, mostly made up of cornflowers, delphiniums and forget-me-nots. It was stunning. I borrowed my Grandmother’s earrings, for my something old and borrowed. My shoes were new and my engagement ring is a sapphire, so that was my something blue.

We got married in Wells (by my uncle) .The moment I stepped into the church I felt just very excited and overwhelmed to see everyone I love in one place! My favourite moment from the day was seeing Jack at the end of aisle and walking down to meet him with my father. After the ceremony we drove straight to the Temple at Holkham where we had family photos.

Walled Garden Reception

Then we joined the reception in the Walled Garden where we were greeted by the rest of our family and friends. Luckily the weather was good so we had drinks and canapes on the lawn and headed into the tipis for dinner.

Place setting

We had slow roast lamb with spring greens and roast potatoes followed by an ‘Eastern Mess’ (Eton Mess with rosewater). The speeches were just before dinner and were all fantastic. It was my grandmother’s birthday the same day as our wedding, so we decided not to have a wedding cake and gave her a birthday cake instead, which I think she loved. Then after dinner we danced and danced and danced. Our first dance was to Everybody Needs Somebody by the Blues Brothers – the dance floor seemed to be busy all night.
