In the third and final blog covering the events taking place at Holkham this autumn, we’ll be sharing more ways for you to explore the estate. This time, we’re focusing on our Tractor Trailer Tours and Hall Tours, where you can learn alongside seeing the beauty of Holkham.
At Holkham we put Lord Leicester’s historic tractor to good use: taking visitors on tractor trailer tours! If you’ve visited the park before, you’re bound to have seen our tractor and trailer trundling around. Take off on the estate in our trailer and learn some incredible facts about the estate history and wildlife from our outstanding education team. What better way to explore Holkham Park and learn at the same time?
This tractor trailer tour will take place throughout the day on weekends & half term in October. Our knowledgeable guides will tell you all they know about our Fallow Deer and their habits, behaviours and characteristics. This autumn, you’ll be taught how to recognise and a doe from a buck, and you may even be lucky enough to witness their rut! As the tour trundles through the estate, we will keep our eyes peeled for life on the lake and even our magnificent birds of prey that soar the skies.
Tickets are £5 and can be booked here. Children under the age of 2 are free.
Every Tuesday in October, an enlightening tractor trailer tour will take our visitors around Holkham Park, exploring the history of the landscape, monuments and the stunning Hall chapel – an integral part of the life and fabric of the hall, with its Roman architectural features and works of art by Italian Renaissance artists. During the tour, enjoy a glass of wine (or a non-alcoholic alternative), and take in the beauty that this expedition has to offer.
A highlight of the tour will include a rare peek into the beautiful Church of St. Withburga, sitting on an ancient hilltop in a remote corner of the park. The majestic flint building incorporates the legacies of many forward-thinking members of the Coke family, who have each left their mark over the years.
The tours take place on Tuesdays 5th, 12th & 19th October from 11am & 2pm. Ticket price includes parking on the estate, a snack during the tour and a glass of wine (or non-alcoholic alternative).
Holkham Hall is open Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays for free-flow looks around this beautiful building. If you’d like to learn more about a particular part of the Hall and its history, why not join us on a tour?
With an entire wing dedicated to guests, entertainment and hosting has always been key at Holkham. The Hall has certainly been known for extravagant and large parties. Find out more about the guests, food, entertainment and other delights on this tour. It might be as fun as actually attending one of the parties!
Of course, someone had to serve the guests at these parties! Whether there were hundreds of guests or not, servants were needed to help with the running of the house. Accompanied by our expert guide, you’ll discover secret doors and passages which meant the servants were barely seen nor heard. You’ll be climbing seventy stairs up to the top of the house, and down again, to see how the servants lived, and see areas of the Hall which aren’t usually on public display.
And if these events aren’t right for you this season, there’s plenty more going on besides! Check out these links for more details:
