Daska Davis is co-founder of Norfolk Online, a website for people who live and work in our great county.
A. Norfolk Online is the brainchild of two married couples, Anna and Hugo Stevenson who live and work in Norwich as PR, communication and marketing professionals, and Daska and Matt Davis, who live on the North Norfolk coast and run a content marketing agency nearby. Having been friends for a number of years, over lunch one day, Anna and I discussed our mutual frustration at the fact that most websites and media outlets were either aimed at people visiting Norfolk as tourists, or weighted towards either Norwich or the coast, but not the whole county.
We wanted to create a new community site which would encompass city, country and coast, with high quality content which tells the stories about the many creative and entrepreneurial people and places in Norfolk. Launched late 2019, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the site has grown quickly to be a well-followed source of interesting articles and information about the county.
A. After a busy few months, Anna and I had planned to get out and about with a series of road trips through the spring and summer to meet people and introduce Norfolk Online, but these plans had to be put on hold as we went into lockdown. Our response was to waive all fees and encourage companies to take a directory listing or contribute an article to share how their businesses were adapting in response to the pandemic. Since lock-down has eased we’ve reintroduced our extremely reasonable ratecard and are working with as many companies as possible to showcase their news and some of the ways they are supporting the community.
A. Holkham is synonymous with days out in Norfolk and, since we came to live on the coast almost 20 years ago with our first-born still in a buggy, it has always been a part of our family life. So in my mind, Holkham is the perfect sponsor of this category and we look forward to sharing the events and news from the estate with our 10,000+ audience.
Following lockdown, Anna and I enjoyed some brilliant visits to some of the county’s best spots and we shared details about the lovely people we met while out and about, so we hope these are insightful reads. We regularly add blogs about events taking place in Norfolk so it’s worth checking back for ideas of how to spend your downtime with friends and family.
A. Yes, from the outset our vision was to bring some of the best voices to the site and we’re blessed to have some brilliant contributors including MasterChef contestant Samantha Mattocks, aka The Delicate Diner writing about Norfolk’s thriving food and drink scene, and business guru Richard Maun sharing his advice in the business & career category.
A. We’ve just added an exciting new podcast, Business Life Online, presented by Anna and Richard – if you’re too busy to read articles online, you can now download and listen to some great interviews while you’re on the go!
The site offers flexible, low-cost ways for businesses to promote themselves with a pod-cast, article, to share details of upcoming events and even recruit staff via our jobs page, so we really want to engage with all types and sizes of companies to use our community to reach the people of Norfolk.
