How the Project Evolved
The team behind building the project had to schedule time into their plans to carry out a number of wildlife surveys before any kind of construction work could start on site. A comprehensive survey revealed there were seven species of bats living in the wooded area chosen including a colony of the rare Barbastelle Bat. Work was carried out to ensure the important habitats of the bats were maintained and the construction of the play area had to be scheduled into a narrow time frame between the bat's breeding and hibernating seasons. With such valuable research, we plan to use all the knowledge gained after the wildlife surveys, to encourage more scientific studies and educational opportunities for children visiting the park.
