Access Statement...

Our aim at The Globe Inn is to provide accommodation and food of a high quality at an affordable cost. We are committed to delivering to all customers an excellent level of service, which we continually strive to improve.

Pre-Arrival

  • Contact us by email, fax, post or phone.  Our switchboard offers an option to leave a message on an answer phone.
  • A brochure is available with details of our opening times, food service times, contact telephone numbers, email and web site addresses and a map showing our location in the town.  This information is repeated on our website.
  • The Globe Inn is located in the town of Wells-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast.  Nearest rail stations are King's Lynn (27 miles) or Norwich (28 miles).
  • The Coasthopper bus service and The Norfolk Green bus service stops at Mill Lane, a one-minute walk from the hotel (see contact information section).
  • Cycle hire is available locally.
  • Our access statement is available via post, email and from our website.
  • The bar and restaurant can be accessed by wheelchair.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • There is unrestricted 24 hour parking around The Buttlands to the front of The Globe Inn.
  • Staff are on hand to assist bringing luggage from guests vehicles into the hotel.
  • The Buttlands is a tarmac, level road with level access in to the hotel.
  • Water bowls are provided for dogs.
     

Main Entrance, Reception

  • There are two entrances.  The main entrance is the most accessible.  There are no steps or ramps and the entrance is double glazed doors opening outwards, each one measuring 60cms making a total access width of 1.2m.  There is a smaller side entrance with level access and one glazed door opening outwards measuring 83cms wide.
  • The entrance is well lit both day and night.
  • Check in is at the front or back bar and the height of the bar is 1.1m.  There is ample seating in this area.
  • Assistance if required is provided by the staff on duty.
  • Pens and pads of paper are available at the bar.
  • Extra room keys can be provided on request.
  • The Globe opens to the public from 9am - 11pm, 7 days a week but is accessible to residents 24 hours.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

  • The public area is on one level with lighting provided by a mixture of wall lights, pendant lights and dimmable spotlights.
  • The public area has wood flooring throughout.
  • There is a television in the front bar with teletext.
  • There are baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet to the rear of the restaurant.
  • Dogs are welcome in the bar and restaurant areas.  Water bowls are provided and dog biscuits are held behind the bar.  Assistance dogs have unrestricted access to the public areas.
  • There are seperate ladies, mens and disabled toilets to the rear of the restaurant.  All have tiled floors and the disabled toilet is fitted with grab rails and an emergency cord.
  • The rooms are located on the first floor and accessed via the front bar through two half-glazed fire doors each measuring 83cms wide.  There is one straight staircase (88cms wide) with 13 treads (20cm risers) and fitted handraill to the right hand side.  The corridor leading to the rooms measures 98 cms in width.

 
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

Public WCs

  • There are public toilets to the rear of the restaurant area.  
  • Ladies toilets (3 cubicles) and Gents (2 cubicles and 2 urinals) are accessed via a single right hinged door (83cms wide).  The cubicles have side hinged doors (62cms). 
  • The flooring is quarry tiles and on one level.  Lighting is artificial.  There are wash basins, hand dryers, paper towels and soap dispensers. 
  • Each cubicle has a coat hook to the back of the door.  In the ladies toilet sanitary disposal bags and units are provided.
  • There is a seperate disabled toilet.  The entrance is 83 cms wide with a side hinged door opening outwards.  The toilet seat height is 47cms.  There is a horizontal grab bar fitted to the back of the entrance door, a horizontal grab bar to the left of the WC, a vertical grab bar to the right of the WC and a  pull down bar also to the right of the WC.  The sink is 70cms high with a lever tap.  The hand dryer is 96cms high.
  • In the disabled toilet there is a drop down baby changing unit and nappy waste disposal bin.

 
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe

  • The lighting throughout the restaurant is provided by a mixture of wall lights and spotlights with good natural light in the rear restaurant area. 
  • The area is open with no narrow aisles and has wood flooring throughout.
  • Seating is provided with a mix of moveable tables and chairs and some fixed bench seating built in.  Some chairs have arm rests.  The height of the chairs is 46 cms, fixed bench seating 53cms and tables heights vary between 70 and 77   cms.  Some tables have a central support column.
  • Menus are printed on a single sheet in Gill Sans MT font, size 12. Staff are available to assist with reading the menus if required.
  • Special dietary requirements are catered for.
  • The Globe Inn operates a non smoking policy throughout.
  • There is waitress service in the restaurant and staff are on hand to assist.
  • The bar area has a selection of moveable tables and moveable chairs together with bar stools.  The height of the bar is 1.1 metres and chair/table heights the same as the back restaurant.
  • There is a wood burning stove in the front bar.

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

  • There are no rooms with wheelchair access.
  • All seven bedrooms are located on the first floor (see Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc. Section).
  • There is no one on duty at The Globe between the hours of 11.30pm and 7.30am.
  • Smoke detectors are fitted to all bedrooms and a fire alarm is fitted.  In the event of fire the proceedure to be followed is on the back of each bedroom door together with emergency contact numbers for the Managers in the event of any other emergency arising.
  • All fire exits are clearly signed and emergency lighting is in operation.
  • All rooms have direct dial telephones, TV with remote control, tea and coffee making facilities with cordless kettles and are bright with natural light.  Ambient lighting is by way of wall lights and pendant lights.
  • The rooms and ensuites have wooden floors.  The walls are painted cream with white woodwork and the rooms are accessorised with bright cushions and bed throws, pictures and mirrors.
  • There are five double rooms and two twin rooms all with en suite facilities.
  • Staff are on hand for assistance between the hours of 7.30am and 11.30pm.

 
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]

  • All seven rooms have ensuite bathrooms.  
  • The ensuites are accessed through a hinged door (80cms wide), have wood flooring and an approximate unobstructed clear floor space of 2m sq.
  • The baths are white enamel measuring 800 x 1800mm and 600mm high with two pillar taps.  The showers are thermostatic on a slider rail and are over the bath.  Each bath has a glass shower screen fitted to the tap end measuring700 x 1300mm.
  • Wash basins are 84cms cms high with two taps and the WC's are 45 cms high.
  • Non-slip bath mats are provided.

 
Grounds and Gardens

  • The Globe Inn has a rear courtyard which is accessable via the restaurant through a single hinged, half glazed door (width 83cms) or via a side gate from the front of the building which measures 2.8m wide.
  • There are two levels which are marked with a colour change to the paving.

 
Additional Information

  • In the event of fire evacuation proceedure information is in all the bedrooms.  The building is fitted with a fire alarm monitored from a central station linked direct to the local fire service.
  • Service dogs are welcome throughout The Globe Inn.
  • The Globe Inn operates a non-smoking policy throughout.
  • Medicines and special dietary foods can be stored in the kitchen.
  • Emergency contact numbers to call are provided in the bedrooms.
  • Staff are available between the hours of 7.30am and 11pm.
  • Mobile telephone reception is available.  WiFi is available in the private dining room.

Future Plans

  • In January 2010 building work will commence on providing 5 more rooms around the rear courtyard.  Completion will be by Easter 2010.
